2009 Blue Jay Spring Season in Review

After a very successful season that included 26 wins; 3 tournament wins and 1 2nd place finish, the Jays concluded their 2009 Spring season on June 28th in time to enjoy the 4th of July holiday. This also included 5 1 run “L’s” on the season including a great 1-0 game loss in May in a game that only lasted over 1 hour!

The eagerly anticipated start of the season began on March 7, 2009 at the “Ragefest” in Kinston, NC where the Jays took 3 out of 4. This “strong” start also carried over to the next tournament in Greensboro, NC where the Jays again took 3 out of 4. Winning the first 6 out of 8 games certainly carried over our trip to play in Myrtle Beach, SC the first weekend in April where they Jays again took 3 out of 4 and brought home the hardware as the tournament champions! This tournament also saw our own #1 take home the tournament MVP honors with a BIG tournament including an inside the park home run! The Jays also made another strong showing three tournaments later in Rocky Mount, NC with another tournament win including two eight inning games that saw the Jays again bring home the hardware. Two tournaments later, the Jays would strike again and finish in 2nd place in New Bern, NC. This included a very good final game that saw the Jays avenge a loss from the day before with a victory! Two tournaments later, the Jays were not finished. The Jays won their 3rd tournament of the season in the High Point/Greensboro, NC area winning 3 out of 4 games again!

The Jays were anchored again by “Deuce”, “JR”, “Bulldog”, and “EZ-E” who made every game and “C” who only missed 1 game. The Jays were led offensively by “Big Show”, defensively by “Deuce” and on the hill by “EZ-E”. Every member of the team contributed to every win! “JK” was spotted on the radar as a “blip” several times on the base paths not to mention, making several plays patrolling right. JR once again “tested” the opponents by leading the team in extra base hits; runs scored and making opponents hearken to the commandment of “Thou shalt not steal”! “Mustang” also contributed by being 2nd on the team in fielding percentage and SB’s, while leading the team in sacrifices. “C” was his usual reliable self on defense making several plays in the middle infield and behind the dish and also at the plate being 2nd on the team on the total runs scored and in the number of thefts. Colton also led the team in on base percentage while making plays patrolling the corners of the outfield. The potent tandem of “A-Train” and “Bulldog” also carried the express on the hill combining for 5 wins, eating up 67 innings of work while striking out over 1 batter per inning and a combined ERA of 1.16 between them! “Tank” was 4th on the team in RBI’s while also leading the team in the category of “Taking one for the Team” with 4 HBP’s. Every “W” this season was a team “W”.

The Jays now look to the 2010 season that begins in September, 2009 as we move up to 11u. We are looking to maintain what we have and keep a very competitive team in the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship. Thank you for all of your support this season!
